My Three Surfers. How they were created...
In college and through my undergraduate studies I was a realist painter. I loved the Renaissance masters and studied them throughout my schooling. When I returned to painting in 2015, I began to paint in realism styles, as it was what I knew. Over the last year I have delved deep into the world of abstract realism, contemporary realism and contemporary abstracts. One of the goals I had for myself when I returned to painting was to evolve how I approached people as subjects in my work. I wanted to maintain a realism to them, but also bring my new found love of contemporary and modern brush strokes. And, the subject matter had to be something outside of my comfort zone. The result, my surfers.
The surfer I completed was "Calm at Folly" in April of 2016.
"The White" was completed shortly after in the same month, April 2016.
It was sometime later before I completed the last in this series. Moving away from female surfers, I chose to do a male in a more active position. "Into the Blue" was completed in September 2016.
These three pieces are in a show at the North Charleston City Gallery through November 2016 and are for sale. Afterwards, they will be available on my website for direct purchase. For more information on how to purchase any of the pieces, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I will be releasing a few more abstract marshes over the upcoming months and then I will be coming back to people in my "Ladies in Hats" series to be released in 2017.
