CORY MCBEE, ARTIST and ILLUSTRATOR
Welcome to my creative world. As a graduate from The College of Charleston with a BA in Studio Art and a MFA from Savannah College of Art and Design in Graphic Design, I work as both a graphic designer and fine artist. I have been a creative all my life and for 15 years I have focused primarily on graphic design. In 2015, I decided to come back to painting and I am enjoying the ability to work as both a digital and fine artist.
Make sure to take the time to visit both Mitchell Hill, and coming soon, West Elm Local both on King Street in Charleston, SC for a selection of my graphic prints. Also, visit Be The Change Boutique and The Skinny Dip, also here in Charleston for a selection of my canvas works.
If you a retailer and are interested in carrying any of my graphic prints or canvas works, please fill out the "Wholesale Inquiry" form.
I am excited to be a part of the Contemporary Artists Coterie that launched in October of 2016.
My artwork is a culmination of my experiences and training as both a classical artist and a graphic designer. My work uses various geometric formulas to explore key composition elements, and bring them forward through my use of color and texture. I also use it as an opportunity to expand my abilities through constant experimentation. With influences ranging from Curtis Jeré, Willem de Kooning, Mark Rothko and contemporary masters I discover the beauty in the evolution of the object, place and idea. The search of how to find myself is ever evolving and takes a transcendent journey through color, pattern and form.
MODERN SOUTH STUDIO
Modern South is the platform for my art and design. I began Modern South as a small invitation and design business in 2012 after running a successful design boutique and working in the industry for over 10 years. I have an extensive background that includes fine art, illustration, typography, advertising, publishing and design. My passion for art and design bring to life unique and expressive creations.
Much of my free time is spent enjoying travel, culture and the arts. My hope is that I can share that knowledge and my adventures with my followers and readers.
